Lancaster’s SPCA routinely receives donations of cash and checks, but on Wednesday, the animal-advocate group drove away in a spacious SUV – a gift from Founders Federal Credit Union.

“Our SPCA animals will be riding in style,” SPCA President Diana Knight said.  “Thanks to Founders.”
Several SPCA members, along with a couple of four-legged friends, met with Nicki Nash, Founders’ chief marketing officer, to receive the keys to a 2003 GMC Yukon Denali.
SPCA board members were all smiles and the dogs had their tail-wagging in high gear in the Founders headquarters parking lot on Plantation Road.
“Founders is pleased to offer this vehicle, recently retired from our fleet, to Lancaster SPCA,” Nash said.
“We knew they could put this vehicle to good use in the transport of animals whether they are being rescued, taken to receive medical care, to live in foster care or to their permanent future homes,” she said.
Knight said that Bruce Brumfield, Founders president and CEO, mentioned a few months ago that the company might donate a vehicle to the group.
“We talked with Mr. Brumfield about supporting the Lancaster SPCA and he was very gracious and believes in what we do and wanted to help,” Knight said.
As she talked, Ryder, a 4-month-old cocker spaniel, placed his paws on the electric buttons on the door panel and rolled the windows up and down.
The group can now carry more animals per trip since the cargo area can hold several crates. They have been limited in the past by the small size of their personal cars, Knight said.
Knight said the group’s recent Flamingo Flocking fundraiser was successful, bringing in $2,500.
SPCA will be hosting an adoption event Dec. 3 at PetSense, during the City of Lancaster’s Christmas in the City celebration.
